STEAM BENDING
How often do you get to see a solid piece of 2″ oak bent around a circle? Studio member Sean Bagge is building a replica of an Egyptian chariot. He’s using measurements from original Egyptian chariots and we’re impressed to see what he’s been able to accomplish with a piece of oak placed in a tube filled with steam, a plywood form, and a bunch of clamps. When the wood comes out of the steamer it is only rubbery for a few moments. This curve required the help of four people to bend and clamp to the form.
